2019 Power Lunch for Boys:
I have been aware of Choice Mentoring since its inception but this past April 2019, I got to spend time with the individuals who have dedicated themselves to working with our youth. I got to experience firsthand how this program can better our young boys. I also got to see how some of the former attendees grew up to be fine gentlemen and were paying it forward as volunteers for the group of young boys attending the 2019 Power Lunch. As a school counselor I cannot say enough about how this program should be attended by as many boys, ages 7-12, who could possibly attend. I would even recommend returning yearly because as the boys grow what they take from the program will change each year. Parents, grandparents and guardians should take a look at Choice Mentoring and get their young men involved in attending the Power Lunch.

Teddy Bear Tea Party 2013
Special thank you to you and your staff for hosting the "Princess Teddy Bear Tea Party". The activities and events that took place has left a lasting impression on Kaia. She is looking forward to next year; I had to tell her that it is too early to start a count down (lol). This year she had a little countdown and blurted out "11 more days until the tea party." Who knew she was keeping a count. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your summer.

2014 Boy's Power Lunch
Ms. Lorraine Troy- a gigantic "Thank you" to you and your team for the work you are doing encouraging young impressionable black males like my son Tymir Warren.

I asked Tymir what he thought of the luncheon, if he enjoyed himself & if he would like to attend again next year if the program hosted the luncheon.
Tymir stated he had a good time, he met some nice people and yes he would like to attend again.

We viewed the clip below together; discussing Mr. Bennett's comments and I asked Tymir to provide me with one take away he received from Mr. Bennett's discussion with him & the other boys.  Tymir's statement is as follows:

"The best part that I got from hearing Mr. Bennett speak was when he told us even if something is hard you have to keep trying. Like when he was playing sports and wanted to give up but his parents wouldn't let him. It made me think of the first time I joined violin and everyone was better than me. I did not want to go back but you (meaning me-his mom) wouldn't let me quit".

I remember that day like it was yesterday, although it has been 2 years now since Tymir has been playing violin. I told him he has to just keep practicing and he will be just as good as everyone else.
I continue to remind him of the "5 P's" he should always try to live by.
The 5 P's are Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance! These 5 P's were presented to Tymir's older brother and I while attending a Parent/Child workshop at H&S Learning Ctr after-school program about 4 years ago and I continue to stress these principles to Tymir and his brother as well as myself.

Again, we so appreciate the work you and the Choice Mentoring program are doing.
